Conference 2009

Blueprints for Beyond Prohibition

On October 23-25, 2009 the Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy held its third national conference, hosted by CSSDP chapters at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia.

Following last year's conference, 100 Years of Failed Drug Policy, in Ottawa, this year's 'Blueprints for Beyond Prohibition' conference presented, explored and debated existing alternatives to drug prohibition in Canada. Over 100 students, community members, drug users, politicians, law enforcement, researchers, clinicians and legal experts gathered for an informed, collaborative and critical 'visioning' of why we need drug policy reform in Canada, what those reforms look like, and who must be included in these discussions.  We are happy to present some of the conference, available in video form below!

CSSDP would like to thank all those who attended and participated in a truly inspiring and  informative weekend.  We would also like to thank those individuals who donated to our 'Sponsor a Student' fund, as well as the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Drug Policy Alliance, Open Society Institute Global Drug Policy Program, eNDProhibition, and the Goldstone HIV/AIDS Education Trust Fund for their generous donations, whose support we would not be able to host the conference without.  We would like to thank Nature's Garden Organic Deli, for their support and their fantastic food.  And we especially want to thank all the volunteers who donated their time and effort towards this year's conference.  'Blueprints for Beyond Prohibition' was a great success due to all the support we received, THANK YOU!

We have already begun working on next year's conference.  Please sign up to our mailing list to received updates (on the left of the page).  If you have any suggestions for topics or speakers, or if you would like to find out how you can help support CSSDP's annual national student-run conference please contact Caleb at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
