What's With Earl?

What With Earl? This past summer Xperiment was launched, giving youth the chance to experience drugs without having to try them.  Is this a novel approach, or a recycling of negative drug education?  It features Earl, a single eyeball, who is put in an alley and given substances like Marijuana, Ecstasy, and Cocaine, and experiences comically exaggerated effects.  Not everyone is convinced this is the best use of government money to teach youth about the effects of drugs.

Try it out for yourself:    www.XPERIMENT.ca

Why are you hanging out in that alley Earl?

Especially when there are frequent marijuana users in all demographics in Canada, and there has been a recent rise in careful recreational use by middle class, middle aged Canadians. What about much more common drug use settings?

Who told you marijuana would give you cancer, man?

Marijuana has been used as a medicine, food and fiber since the dawn of civilization! Even the Canadian government recognizes it as a legal medicine. The Canadian Medical Marijauana program has been criticized repeatedly by the Supreme Court repeatedly for not providing adequate access to licenses or quality marijuana… but they still “officially” recognize it. They are even prescribing it to cancer patients! And rightly so. Studies don't demonstrate a causal link to lung and other cancers, and other studies show marijuana may fight certain cancers.  How are youth going to reconcile this with the thousands of Canadians using marijuana medically?
